COUNCIL APPROVAL AND LOCAL LEGISLATION
RELATING TO TINY HOMES / CARAVAN COTTAGES
The teams at Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House are committed to providing affordable and accessible housing solutions to our fellow Australians. As one of the countries largest suppliers of relocatable housing, we regularly assist our customers to interpret legislation which varies from state-to-state and council-to-council.
At present, there is no uniform legislation (nationally) that relates specifically to ‘relocatable homes’ and due to the design of our relocatable solutions we do not offer a Class 1a product that complies with Building Code of Australia (BCA) regulations. In most cases local councils categorise relocatable housing products as a caravan style product (in relation to the longer term placement of a non-fixed dwelling) and therefore, we supply our relocatable homes as a caravan style product, designed to meet local council regulations concerning the longer term placement (and the connection of services) of caravan style products, rather than fixed dwellings.*
In some cases, mounting a My Little House relocatable home onto one of our purpose-built trailers has helped our customers avoid many of the common obstacles associated with obtaining conventional council approvals. Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House supply our relocatable homes to customers as a caravan style product regardless of whether a trailer is utilised or not, and it is each customers responsibility to understand the regulations which are relevant to their local area.
The Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House teams are witnessing first-hand the growing housing shortage in Australia, and we are actively involved in discussions with industry bodies and government agencies to promote the benefits of relocatable homes. We acknowledge that the ambiguity and inconsistency around council legislation is often frustrating for our customers, however Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House are committed to providing detailed and accurate information about our products to ensure our customers understand exactly what they are purchasing – high quality relocatable homes.

*Due to the inconsistency in legislation state-to-state and council-to-council relating to the application or approval process required for the long-term installation/parking/connection of services of a caravan on a particular property, Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House cannot assist with the process of acquiring permits or approvals and make no guarantee of compliance in any local council area.
It is the customers responsibility to confirm that products from Container Domes and Shelters and My Little House are suitable for the required application, prior to purchase. We recommend that customers contact their local council to understand all local regulations prior to purchase.
